Introduction to Electroweak Unification: Standard Model from Tree Unitarity
Published in Hardcover by World Scientific Pub Co (October, 1994)
Average review score:

Electroweak theory in a very physical languageIt has become standard to emphasize the gauge symmetries - those spontaneously broken by the Higgs mechanism - as the origin of the electroweak interactions. The author instead follows a different route. He does a masterful job of deriving the electroweak theory by adding more fields and terms one after another in order to maintain the tree unitarity, i.e. a sufficient power law decrease of various tree amplitudes with the energy. This leads to the electroweak theory in the physical gauge without any recourse to the gauge principle. It is easy for the reader to appreciate the logic, the experimental and/or theoretical inevitability, and the physical principles behind the construction that ultimately leads to the electroweak theory.

Island in the Sky: The Story of Grand Mesa
Published in Paperback by Western Reflections Inc (01 July, 1999)
Average review score:

The definitive work on Grand MesaMuriel Marshall, long time Colorado Western Slope resident and authoritative author, has done it again. In her incomparable, easy-to-read style, she has written the definitive book about a famous landmark on the Western Slope that the Ute Indians, wise in such matters, called Heaven. Most present day visitors know it a Grand Mesa, reputed to be the world's largest flattop mountain. The book is a well-researched, in-depth look at this 2,000 square mile geological phenomenon. It's all here, the history, the people, the place and events that have made Grand Mesa such a unique place. You will learn there are more than a thousand named places on some 50 U.S. Geological Survey quad maps required to cover its surface. Names such as Condemn It Park, Hell's Kitchen, Dead Man's Gulch and Holy Terror Creek are vividly described and framed in historical perspective. The story of Enos Hotchkiss and his entry into the Uncompahgre Valley is both interesting and factually accurate. The hardships endured by the Utes and early settlers are a reminder of the sometimes unforgiving climate and terrain on this one-of-a-kind treasure. You will visit 300 lakes, walk among the springtime flowers, enjoy summer hiking and fishing, revel in its myriad winter activities, and marvel at its incomparable, colorful autumn. Its all here, the history that is truly sometimes stranger than fiction; the people who struggled to settle, but never really tamed, this formidable obstacle; the vast array of flora and fauna found within its boundaries; and the events that have made Grand Mesa a "heaven" to those fortunate enough to have traversed its terrain. This is destined to be the definitive history of Grand Mesa. It is a comprehensive, well written book that is the hallmark of Marshall. For you readers who have read her earlier works, you know what I mean. For you that have not, well...you are in for a treat. Marshall is as great an asset on the Western Slope as the people and places she writes about. You will never truly know Grand Mesa until you read this book.

Le Grand Meaulnes
Published in Paperback by Viking Press (September, 1990)
Average review score:

A classic of strange lands and people through a childs eye. This book is probably one of my all time favorite reads. It's a classic in France and read mainly by younger adults/children. The story is seen from a young boys point of view and encompasses all the delights of a fairytale, from secret countryside and villages to strange travelling people and magic and romance. It is a must for anyone who like myself, dreams of forgotten hours of childhood wandering aimlessly in strange places and forgetting where you are.

Let's Discover the Grand Canyon: A Children's Activity Book for Ages 6-11
Published in Paperback by Mountaineers Books (June, 2003)
Average review score:

A great companion to our Grand Canyon vacation! This is just the kind of book that I was looking for as a companion to our Grand Canyon vacation. It has a variety of activities that will please my kids ranging in age from 5 years to 13 years (although the activities for the older child are limited).
Coloring pictures of the Grand Canyon together with my 5 and 7 year old is helping them get excited about the trip and will help them appreciate the visit even more.
Final score: The 5 year old needs help with the reading, but almost all of the activities are appropriate.
This is a perfect book for the 7 year old -- she will only need help with some of the bigger words.
This is a stretch for my 13 year old, but he will enjoy several of the activities.
I even learned something from reviewing it!
